Pre-registration training

We offer 2 pre-reg training placements

Pre-registration trainee pharmacists will gain experience in all areas through a rotation programme. This includes rotating through dispensary, drug distribution, purchasing, quality control, medicines information, production and clinical. These will be split between Mount Vernon Hospital, Lister Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital.

Pre-registration trainees also need to spend a minimum of 2 weeks in a community Pharmacy. There is 2 weeks allocated to audit work, with a presentation of their audit to the departments expected at the end of it.

The training is actively monitored by the tutor (who meets at least every 2 weeks with the trainees) and modified if necessary, to meet individual training needs. Our pre-registration trainee pharmacist training is well structured and ensures that all areas of competence required by the GPhC are covered. Pre-registration trainees work in every section of the department as well as ward areas throughout their training year.

Our trainees attend five blocks of residential training spaced throughout the year with the University of East Anglia. These study blocks focus on clinical topics and provides considerable support for the pre-registration exam.

We hope you will choose to work and join our diverse, friendly and hard working team.

The Pharmacy department

The Pharmacy Department is located at the Mount Vernon, Lister and QEII hospital sites. The department is young, friendly and progressive. Qualified pharmacists are actively encouraged and supported to study for formal clinical qualifications e.g. Certificate or Diploma in Pharmacy Practice (University of Hertfordshire and University College London).

In-house training meetings are held to ensure that staff keeps up-to-date with their knowledge. All training programmes are tailored individually according to a member of staff's needs, and previous experience is taken into account.
